Awesome… loved this one! I need to watch it again. These presentations are so inspiring!

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

Thanks Grace~!  There is toms more info in naked Calories that we couldn’t get to!  and a new book Rich Food, Poor Food is out this fall!

  • Annelie

Great information! I got a lot out of why we have certain cravings. I have always believed your body will let you know what it needs and cravings are just that.

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

are you craving sweets or salts?  i find that when i get these cravings, if i just eat the food/nutreints we indicated in the book are deficient.. they go away instantly.  Now that i cm sufficient I can’t really even tell you the last craving i had.

  • Lsepessy

Your reasoning and analysis of the multi vitamins available on the mass market is fascinating. I glanced at your Nutrience product and wondered if you recommend this product for all ages – and whether you would recommend adding  anything for the different age groups. I’m particularly interested in older teenagers with “varied” diets.

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

We tell everyone to take nutreince (our multi) with a fish oil , or other source of fat. this will help with the absorption of the fat soluble vitamins.  Additionally, teens should definitely supplement.  This is when my osteoporosis set in.  Much of our future health is based on our childhood development.  Other than that, probiotics can be helpful if the teen doesn’t eat fermented foods or have great gut bacteria. Love to answer anything more specific too!

  • Sherrydavis

What is the best fish oil to take?

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

You want to look for really high spa and dha, not just total omega-3.  a liquid will supply you with much more than a pill.  Keep checking our website.  we will be posting our new favorite there soon.  JOin the optimal like blog on our site to stay in touch !

Is there a test that you can take to know if you are micro-nutrient deficient?

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

yes.. and its free!!! click the link below to go to our website and take the test.  It will give you a great idea of the likelihood of these depleters in your life! http://caltonnutrition.com/micronutrient-sufficiency-quiz.aspx Micronutrient Sufficiency Quiz – Calton Nutrition

  • Kay

It’s unfortunate that Nutreince contains Stevia as it gives me really nasty headaches.

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

we will be coming out with an unflavored unsweetened version soon !

      • Kay

        Glad to hear it!

  • Rita

Around 21:00, when talking about deficiencies in people who follow the Atkins diet, the slide says Vitamin B12, but Jayson says B2. Is it B2 or B12?

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

“A study conducted by the Children’s Nutrition
Research Centre of the Royal Children’s Hospital in Australia found that
following the Atkins Diet resulted in significant reductions in intake of
vitamin B2, folate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron,” from naked calories and Dr caltons study found Atkins to be deficient in B5, B7, Vit D, E, Choline, Zinc, sodium, molybdenum, magnesium, potassium, iron, copper, chromium and calcium

  • Sewingtre

Loved the book but could not take the supplement. Caused severe sugar cravings for me and severe headaches for my daughter.

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

we will be coming out with an unsweetened , unflavored version soon.  We tested some people and it seem the flavor in the am caused this . very few were affected but we are creating one none the less.

    • Lauriplum

It is the Stevia.  The same headaches and jumpiness happened to me and my daughter from Stevia.  Bad stuff!!

  • Renni_G

I just took the test and got a minus OUCH. If I remember correctly, Sarah Pope raised the point that supplements cannot be taken as an isolated substance, that there needs to be a synergy between the nutrients/minerals/supplements in our foods similar to the Caltons presentation. Is that correct Sean? I have seen supplements sold as AM and PM or one is the orchard blend and one is the garden blend–seems logical to have an AM and PM after listening to this presentation. I have  been researching parasites in the human body and learned that Kosher products will not contain pork or shellfish which seem to be high on the parasite list, so I will be interested to see if Nutreince has that label. Caltons, what is your opinion of taking ‘raw supplements’?  I was told they absorb quickly. What is your opinion to detox every few months? Does Nutreince derive its contents from raw and certified organic sources? I would like to add that I met a 21 year old woman who was diagnosed with osteoporosis. She said her doctor informed her that taking the birth-control is what brought it on. .  .  .  so many consequences of modern ‘you fill in the blank’

  • Lori

    Are your vitamins food based?

  • Lauriplum

Stevia seems to make me real jumpy and sick to my stomach.  Do you use anything else like pure cane sugar or evaporated cane jusice to sweeten your vitamin product?

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

we have a unflavored unsweetened version coming out soon.  Please sign up for our blog at calton nutrition.com so that we can keep you updated as to when it comes out.

Did/do the Inuit, Masai, Kitavans, or Loetschental Swiss ”supplement?” Did they thrive, or just merely survive? I think a evolutionary perspective is lacking here…

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

we actually went to kitava, so we can answer from experience where as many who discuss this only read about them.  They are thriving mostly, but there are some real micronutrient deficiencies in that group as well (you can tell by those with orange/blonde bleached hair). no, they don’t supplement, but they don’t eat any false foods either. they eat a ton of fresh fruit, fish, chicken eggs and they eat it all fresh pasture raised and newly caught.  they nutrient levels are amazing because they understand their island and    have some intensely nutrient foods of which they eat a lot of.  I feel badly because as people visit there they will lose this ability and be tainted by our foods.  Now, their bodies are amazing , like 20 at the age of fifty.  you can see photos on our website under CALTON PROJECT. lots of photos. ;) cause we were there !!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/jaemi Jamie Ann

The blond hair that you find among various Pacific Islanders is caused by a genetic mutation, it is not a nutrient deficiency.

        • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

we were told that this gene mutation was diet related. I will follow up with the scientist that we spoke to on this fact.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jaemi Jamie Ann

key words: “may have.”  it’s a theory.

        • Zach

I’m sorry but maybe I’m not understanding you, are you saying that its not important to strive to get adequate micronutrients? I understand you argument that certain civilizations did not meet them year around, how could they? But in todays world no one in the there right mind would argue that in the US we are “thriving”. Which is why this information is relevant, they basically just did a “very brief” summary of an advanced micronutrients class.

          • http://www.facebook.com/jaemi Jamie Ann

where did i say that? you replied to the wrong person.

      • Wade

I understand what you are getting at, and I definitely agree that micronutrients are key. I do believe however that throughout different evolutionary stages as many cultures developed, that there was a variety of micronutrient profiles. Many of these would be “incomplete” according to the RDI in a sense, but the cultures thrived nonetheless. I’m sure that you are aware that the body compensates for a lack of particular nutrients in the diet, and I don’t know if there is an evolutionary basis (i.e., completely necessary) to have every single micronutrient in order to achieve robust health. Thank you for the link to your pictures though- I’ll have to check them out.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jaemi Jamie Ann

Wade, if you were here, I would high five you! But since you are not, I am high-fiving myself. Well said brotha!

  • http://primaltoad.com/ Todd Dosenberry

I really enjoyed this presentation. It is amazing how we all focus on macronutrients – trying to get that perfect ratio when it’s really not a huge deal. What is a huge deal is that we are in fact deficient in so many vitamins and minerals.

I don’t supplement at all but may down the road. I do agree that a powder form is going to be much more absorbable then a pill. It just makes complete sense anyways.

  • Activia

I’m skeptical. They didnt talk about people on Paleo diets (because they haven’t been studied) That are eating local grass fed beef, local fruits & veggies, bone broths, and organ meet on a regular basis with VERY little “junk” if not much at all. This is NOT the typical gluten free or Atkins diet.. Plus they dont talk about how phytates can affect absorption of micronitrunients nor do they talk about how cooking food (low/slow) can increase digestion which then increases the amount of micronutrients that are absorbed. In addition, there are likely vitamins that we are not yet aware of in foods… there is also a symbiatic relationship in foods… certain vitamins will not get absorbed if they are in different types of packages. Also if you take steps to reduce your stress, and manage it with meditation it will reduce the amount of micronutrients that you need.

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

Jayson actually says exactly what you say we didn’t discuss in there being numerous unknown nutrients in our foods. Phytates are discussed in chapter 5 on Naked Calories and we do speak a lot about the benefits of this diet in particular.  We just didn’t have time for it all.  We were already hitting the 1 hour mark with only mentioning a few of the anti nutrients,.

  • MicroNutrientObsessed

What sources do you use for your:  calcium, Vitamin-c, magnesium, zinc & selenium?

    • MicroNutrientObsessed

Until I see detailed information on the sources and types of each of the above used in y our product, I will blaze my own nutritional trail.  It means sourcing a lot of different supplements on my own, but it is worth the effort to know that I am taking in the highest quality, most natural, high absorption and low toxicity micro nutrients.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jaemi Jamie Ann

supplements at best, create a placebo effect, or are ineffective, and at worst, harmful. which category does yours fall into?

    • http://twitter.com/NakedCalories Naked Calories

it is a discussion on micronutrients.  we even said don’t tell everyone they need to supplement and we don’t even start to talk about supplements until we are mostly throughout the interview.  I would think that most people would expect us to discuss the research from our book.

  • Barbara

How people on the Atkins diet can be low in B12 if they eat
    lots of meat?

Also I read somewhere that you have to take zinc with
copper. AOR has zinc plus copper. I do not remember the reasoning behind it but
as soon as you learn something later on you find out that you were wrong.

  • Ceryniti

Hi, thank you so much for a wonderful presentation! I want to know what you guys think about bee pollen?
